If your WebP has a transparent background — a logo, an icon, a cut-out product shot — PNG is the conversion you want. It is the only one of the two classic formats that can carry an alpha channel, so nothing about the image changes except the container.

The output is lossless, so the PNG is pixel-identical to the decoded WebP. Whatever quality the WebP already had is preserved exactly; it just becomes a larger file, because that is the price of losslessness.

What you get

  • Transparency survives

The alpha channel is carried across untouched. No white box appears behind your logo.

  • Lossless output

PNG encoding does not discard information, so the conversion adds no new artefacts.

  • Broad tool support

PNG is accepted by design tools, office software and print workflows that reject WebP.

  • Runs on your device

Decoding and encoding both happen in the browser tab.

How it works

  1. 1

    Load the WebP

The browser decodes it including any transparency.

  2. 2

    Convert to PNG

Pixels and alpha are written into a PNG container. There is no quality setting because none is needed.

  3. 3

    Download

You get a lossless PNG with the transparency intact.
