Overlaid text is a well-shaped inpainting problem: the region is high-contrast and easy to mark, and the background behind it is usually simple enough to reconstruct convincingly. It is one of the cases where this class of model performs reliably well.

This is offered for text you have the right to remove — your own captions, your own watermarks, an old draft version of your own graphic. It is not built as a tool for stripping other people's attribution, and the terms of use say so.

What you get

  • Reliable on flat backgrounds

    Text over a wall, a sky or a solid colour reconstructs cleanly. That covers most captions.

  • Full-resolution mask

    The mask is painted at the image's own resolution, so thin lettering can be covered accurately.

  • Disclosed cloud step

    The provider is named before the upload happens.

  • Continue in the editor

    Recrop or recompress the cleaned image without another upload.

    Brush over the lettering. Cover it fully, including any drop shadow.

    The image and mask go to the configured provider for inpainting.

    Download or keep editing

    The cleaned image returns to the page.

Specifications

  • Beta. This tool is implemented and runs through the configured cloud AI provider. If no provider is configured on this deployment the page says so and processes nothing — it never falls back to a fabricated result. It stays out of search indexing until output quality is consistently good enough to be worth ranking.
  • Implemented via the AIProvider abstraction. Shares an engine with Magic Eraser.
